Goodwood XK Track Day 10 April 2006Event Report by John Roberts
"It was a bitterly cold start to the day with some of us experiencing an inch of snow when we left home at 06:45hrs. But it soon brightened up and the first Jaguar XK Track Day of the season was off to a flying start. There was an 08:30 Briefing in the office where we Signed On, told not to drive too quickly, not to time laps, that this was not a race and we should be out there just to have fun. YEAH!!
There were about thirty 1950 XK`s on show, soon to be taken out on the famous Goodwood Race Circuit featured at the annual Goodwood Revival hosted by Lord March each September.
The day started to warm up in more ways than one. The outside temperature leapt to a respectable 12C and the wind dropped and as the Drivers "warmed" to the circuit, confidence was building and the not-to-be-mentioned "Lap Times" started to fall." "It was a day filled with camaraderie and I swapped my XK150 Racer for Chris Keith-Lucas` XK120 Roadster, which was open to the elements with its aero screens as the only wind deflectors. But by mid afternoon, it was really fun. Chris was using my car to gain experience of its handling capabilities, the engine`s capability, as later this month we will be co-driving the MWS car at Spa-Francorchamps on the 30th April in Belgium in a two driver Endurance race.
Everything seemed to be working well and Chris was happy with it`s set-up, so we are almost prepared for Spa. Watch this space for an update in May.
By mid-morning Charles (Americanos) arrived to join in the spirit of the day and met a number of MWS customers and took a number of photos of the "Boys in Action". We had a leisurely lunch in the Flying Club with other drivers, then took to the track once more.
Let`s hope that we can start the race season in such a positive manner and some good race results. The next race after Spa will be an HSCC (Historic Sports Car Club) meeting at Silverstone on the 20th May. Come along and talk to us in the Paddock." Click on a picture to see a larger image. |
